1. Data Storage: All shopping lists and preferences are stored locally on your device. We do not use a central server, and we have no way to access your lists. You can choose to have your data backed up to Google with the rest of your phone's content, but that's optional. All data received via Mako Beam scanning is immediately integrated into your local database and is subject to the same privacy protections as your manually entered items. Mako Shopper is a local-first application. All list data is stored exclusively on the user's device. Users may delete all app-related data at any time by uninstalling the application or clearing the application cache via Android system settings.
2. Voice Data: Voice entry uses your device's native speech-to-text. We do not record or store your audio files.
3. Local List Sharing (Mako Beam): You can share specific store lists with other devices using the "Mako Beam" QR code feature. This is a direct, device-to-device transfer. No data is sent to our servers or any third-party cloud service during this process. The data encoded in the QR code is a minified, temporary string that is only readable by another Mako Shopper app. The app does not share user-generated list data. The integrated QR library for 'Mako Beam' may collect anonymized diagnostic identifiers to monitor scanner performance, which are processed by Google as a service provider and are not shared with third parties. This data is handled in accordance with the Google Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy).
4. Permissions:
Microphone: Only used for Voice Entry.
Storage: Used to save your lists locally.
Barcode Scanning (Mako Beam): We use the Google Code Scanner API to provide the Mako Beam feature. This API allows for secure, on-device scanning without requiring Mako Shopper to access your device's camera. All scanning is processed by the Android system, and the app only receives the decoded text results.
