Mako Shopper's Privacy Manifesto

Our Philosophy:YOUR DATA IS NEVER OUR BUSINESS.

1. Data Storage: All shopping lists, store locations, and preferences are stored locally on your device. We do not use a central server, and we have no way to access your lists. You can choose to have your data backed up to Google with the rest of your phone's content, but that's optional. All data received via Mako Beam scanning is immediately integrated into your local database and is subject to the same privacy protections as your manually entered items.

2. Voice Data: Voice entry uses your device's native speech-to-text. We do not record or store your audio files.

3. No Trackers: Mako Shopper contains zero third-party trackers. No Google Analytics, no Firebase, and no ads.

4. Local List Sharing (Mako Beam): You can share specific store lists with other devices using the "Mako Beam" QR code feature. This is a direct, device-to-device transfer. No data is sent to our servers or any third-party cloud service during this process. The data encoded in the QR code is a minified, temporary string that is only readable by another Mako Shopper app.

5. Permissions:

Microphone: Only used for Voice Entry.
Storage: Used to save your lists locally.
Barcode Scanning: We use the Google Code Scanner API for the Mako Beam feature. This allows you to scan QR codes without granting Mako Shopper access to your camera. The scanning process is handled by the Android system, and the app only receives the text result of the scan.
